Origins of the golden palm

The golden palm, seen on much of my clothing, is not a representation of anything but to serve as a reminder. The reminder is to remember what’s important. Remember to carve out time for yourself, your family, your friends and what fulfills. Work is important, we all need material resources to care for ourselves and our families but we should not live to work. That's ’s where the golden palm really takes its meaning.

Working for myself has been extremely frustrating at times but also incredibly rewarding. But that’s every job, right? The difference is at the end of the day someone else isn’t taking credit for my hard work. I am solely responsible for the mistakes and any shortfall, but I’m also able to be proud of the accomplishments I am acknowledged for. I also have the ability to design a schedule that affords me the opportunity to hang out under the golden palm, figuratively speaking of course. Don’t get me wrong I love to play, which as I get older takes the form of trying to relax every chance I get, or literally playing with my children. Or my wife and I making a date night for just us a priority. But knowing that I completed what needs to get done outside of work allows me to enjoy the play time I have.

I will use the hashtags #gooutside and #learnaskill in most of my posts because that’s why I am creating this narrative. More to come in future posts about that.

Wow, that was a long winded way of saying be balanced in life. Whenever you see the golden palm remember to take time from what you must do (work) to do what you need to do (mundane essential tasks) in order to do what you want to do (play and enjoy life).
